Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice

Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Norris, who took the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.

Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.

The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team ran a different programme.

His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.

The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the fence.

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the pit straight.

The veteran finished practice in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.

Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.

Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
