The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

Consider this a dare for long-term couples who are fans of scary movies: Get comfortable with your loved one and view Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like conventional biological terror, but beneath Together lies a profound meditation about the ways we decide to love our partners.

A Directorial Debut Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together is the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have remained a couple for over ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a particular energy to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a enduring union.

The plot begins when the couple relocate from the big city to the countryside for professional reasons. A commonly used narrative setup, sure, but that’s primarily where the cliches end. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their country house, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim fall into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a strange force begins influencing the duo. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying fright fest, blending bits of hallucinatory nightmares, unsettling (but never too gross) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes amidst something horrific). The director skillfully blends these components expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and distant from his social circle. He dreads the idea of completely losing his sense of self in Millie. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he can’t drive and relies on Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move in Together never makes one partner or the other the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie grapple with the kind of problems that arise in most partnerships a decade in. Deep down, they still love each other. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and open up at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these concerns of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to another person, the metaphor does not come across as clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the supernatural and the personal work together symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about codependent relationships. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, certain partners having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own response could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the finale inspire anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply turn to your other half and say, “We could get through that together”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can undertake today.

Together is streaming on Hulu as of this moment.
